TikTok has unveiled a new feature that automatically labels AI-generated content originating from external platforms, such as OpenAI’s DALL·E 3. This update ensures transparency for viewers by clearly indicating when content has been created using AI technology.

Utilizing Content Credentials, a technology developed by the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), TikTok can seamlessly identify and label AI-generated content. This metadata attachment allows TikTok to differentiate between user-generated and AI-generated content, enhancing transparency on the platform.

The implementation of Content Credentials marks a significant step towards transparency in content sharing. TikTok plans to roll out automatic labeling for AI-generated content globally, starting with the deployment on Thursday and subsequent availability to all users in the coming weeks.

While TikTok already identifies content created using its native AI effects, this update extends labeling capabilities to content generated on external platforms that support Content Credentials. Notable platforms include OpenAI’s DALL·E 3 and Microsoft’s Bing Image Creator, with Google pledging its support for Content Credentials.
