Despite a significant rise in Google’s AI emissions, which have soared to 50%, the upcoming Pixel 9 series is poised to revolutionise mobile AI integration. The new series, launching under the “Google AI” branding, packs innovative features that enhance the user experience in photography, creativity, and privacy.
Cutting-Edge AI Features in the Pixel 9 Series
1. Add Me
The Add Me feature is an evolution of the Best Take functionality from the Pixel 8 series. It leverages AI to analyze group photos, detecting faces and making adjustments to ensure everyone looks their best. This capability is particularly useful for perfecting those tight group photos where getting everyone to look good simultaneously can be challenging.
2. Studio
Studio is an upgraded version of the Creative Assistant app, integrated with the screenshot editor on Pixel phones. Initially designed for creating and remixing stickers, Studio is now rumoured to expand its capabilities to generate AI images and videos. Advanced tools like Imagen 2, VideoFX, Veo, and ImageFX, which are currently under testing or available to select users within Google Labs, might power this feature.
3. Pixel Screenshots
Pixel Screenshots is similar to Microsoft’s Recall but emphasizes privacy. This feature processes screenshots you manually capture, extracting metadata such as web links, app names, and dates locally on your device. This ensures privacy while allowing you to search and interact with your screenshots based on their content.
Previous AI Integrations and Enhancements
The Pixel 8 series, launched in October 2023, introduced AI-driven features like Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and Best Take, significantly improving photography and videography. These features used AI algorithms to enhance image quality, remove unwanted objects, and select the best shots from a burst.
Google’s AI also facilitated real-time live translations, breaking down language barriers during conversations in person or over the phone. Circle to Search, expected to receive enhancements in the Pixel 9 series, is another notable feature.
Release and Availability
Google will unveil the Pixel 9 series at the Made by Google event in Mountain View on August 13. Google expects to eventually roll out these features to third-party devices, although that may occur later this year or next. With the Pixel 9 series, Google aims to push the boundaries of what AI can achieve on mobile devices, setting a new standard for the industry.
Stay tuned for more updates as the launch date approaches and discover how these advanced AI features can transform your mobile experience.
