Humane Advises Customers to Cease Use of Charging Case Due to Battery Fire Risk

Humane

The launch of the AI Pin by Humane has faced several challenges, and the latest issue has prompted the company to take precautionary measures. This week, Humane sent an email to its customers, urging them to stop using the egg-shaped charging case.

Humane’s warning comes “out of an abundance of caution” after the company investigated a “single complaint” regarding a charging issue. The investigation revealed that the batteries supplied for the charging case might pose a fire hazard.

“Our investigation determined that the battery supplier was no longer meeting our quality standards and that there is a potential that certain battery cells supplied by this vendor may pose a fire safety risk,” Humane stated in an email. “As a result, we immediately disqualified this battery vendor while we work to identify a new vendor to avoid such issues and maintain our high quality standards.”

Company Response and Next Steps

In response to this issue, Humane has ceased using the problematic battery supplier and is actively seeking a new one to ensure continued product safety and quality. The company has not confirmed if there will be a full recall or refunds but is currently offering customers two free months of its $24 subscription service as a form of compensation.

Humane’s predicament is not unique; other consumer electronics companies have also faced issues with hazardous batteries. However, this news comes at a particularly inopportune time, as the company’s founders are reportedly exploring potential buyers for the company, just months after launching their first product.

Specific Products Affected

The issue appears to be limited to the Charge Case. Humane clarified that this battery concern affects neither the Battery Boost nor the Charging Pad products.

Humane’s proactive measures and search for a new battery supplier aim to restore customer confidence and ensure the safety of their products moving forward.
