Google Photos is set for a significant AI upgrade, as the tech giant announced the expansion of several enhanced editing features to all users for free, previously exclusive to Pixel devices and paid subscribers.
Previously reserved for Pixel devices and Google One subscribers, features like the AI-powered Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and Portrait Light will now be accessible to all Google Photos users.
While the expansion is exciting, there are a few caveats to consider. The rollout of these tools will commence on May 15, with gradual availability across all Google Photos users. Additionally, users must ensure their ChromeOS and mobile devices meet specific hardware requirements, including minimum RAM and operating system versions.
Magic Editor: A Game-Changing Tool
The standout feature of this expansion is the Magic Editor, leveraging generative AI to perform intricate photo edits previously requiring professional software like Photoshop. This tool empowers users to make complex edits effortlessly, such as changing skies, removing unwanted elements, and repositioning subjects.
While Magic Editor will be accessible to all Pixel device users, iOS and Android users meeting the device requirements will receive limited Magic Editor saves per month. Premium Google One subscribers will have unlimited access to this feature.
A Wealth of Editing Tools
Beyond Magic Editor, users can enjoy a plethora of editing tools, including Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Sky Suggestions, Color Pop, HDR Effects, Portrait Blur, Portrait Light, Cinematic Photos, Styles in Collage Editor, and Video Effects. These features will be available to all Google Photos users without requiring a Google One subscription.
Certain advanced features, such as AI-powered Best Take, will remain exclusive to Pixel 8 and 8 Pro users.
