AI Eraser: OnePlus Ventures into Developing its Unique Version of Google’s Magic Eraser

AI Eraser

OnePlus is making its mark in the realm of mobile artificial intelligence with the debut of its AI Eraser feature for iPhone and iPad devices. This move signifies OnePlus’s commitment to carving its own path in the AI landscape, distinguishing itself from established offerings like Google’s Magic Eraser.

Contrary to speculation, OnePlus’s AI Eraser is not a mere rebranding of Google’s Magic Eraser. Instead, OnePlus has developed its own iteration, showcasing its independent AI endeavors. While Google’s Magic Eraser gained attention during the Pixel 6 event in March 2021, OnePlus has been quietly working on its version, leveraging its proprietary large language models (LLMs).

According to OnePlus’s press materials, the development of AI Eraser involved significant research and development investment, with the company training its LLMs on extensive datasets to enhance visual understanding. The result is an intelligent tool capable of seamlessly removing unwanted objects from photos and enhancing overall image quality.

While AI-powered erasers undoubtedly offer convenience, OnePlus’s decision to invest resources in a feature already mastered by Google may raise eyebrows. However, this move could be OnePlus’s strategy to assert itself in the competitive smartphone market, positioning itself as a contender in the era of AI-driven innovations.

The rollout of AI Eraser begins this month, with compatibility extending to select OnePlus devices such as OnePlus 12, OnePlus 12R, OnePlus 11, OnePlus Open, and OnePlus Nord CE 4. Unfortunately, the feature will not be available on the R12-D12 model.
