In a bid to further personalize user experiences, Spotify is venturing into the realm of multilingual AI DJs. While its initial foray into AI-driven DJing brought about personalized song selections for users, the company is now setting its sights on catering to Spanish-speaking audiences.

Hints of this new development surfaced when tech veteran and reverse engineer Chris Messina delved into the app’s code. Within it, he uncovered clues suggesting that users would soon have the option to switch the AI DJ’s language from English to Spanish. Moreover, references to the new DJ’s moniker, “DJ Livi,” were found, alongside indications of its availability in Mexico.

When approached for comment, Spotify neither confirmed nor denied the discoveries.

“At Spotify, we routinely explore various tests aimed at enhancing user interaction with the music they cherish,” stated a company spokesperson. “While some tests may shape our broader user experience, others serve primarily as insightful experiments. At present, we have no additional updates to share regarding future plans,” they elaborated.

Catering to a Global Audience: The Strategic Impetus

In essence, Spotify refrains from affirming concrete launch strategies for a Spanish-speaking AI DJ, as the feature remains in experimental stages. Nonetheless, targeting this demographic aligns with Spotify’s broader strategy, considering the widespread prevalence of the Spanish language globally. Notably, Spanish ranks among the top languages globally, trailing behind English, Mandarin, and Hindi. Moreover, given its prominence in the United States, a pivotal market for Spotify, where over 42 million individuals speak Spanish at home, catering to this audience appears strategically sound. Presumably, once launched, users worldwide would have the option to switch their AI DJ to Spanish.

Beyond DJing: Spotify’s AI Exploration

However, Spotify’s AI exploration extends beyond DJing. The company has dabbled in leveraging AI for crafting host-read ads for podcasts and curating personalized AI playlists based on user prompts. Spotify’s CEO, Daniel Ek, has hinted at broader AI integration across its operations, encompassing personalization, advertising, and podcast enhancements.
